Our Deacons

You weren’t meant to face life alone.

Our deacons are here to walk with you.

Life brings seasons of joy, sorrow, healing, and uncertainty. And in those moments—especially the hard ones—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure where to turn.

At Canadian Valley Baptist Church, our deacons are more than leaders—they’re everyday people committed to showing up with love and compassion when you need it most. They are not paid for the work they do for our church and community, but are still committed to caring every day of the year.

Whether you’re facing a medical diagnosis, walking through grief, navigating a transition, or simply in need of someone to talk or pray with—our deacons are here to help carry the load.

We serve because Jesus served first. And we want you to know: you are never alone.

Robby Robison

Deacon I Oilfield Operator | Proud Dad & Granddad

Robby came to faith in 1970, after his dad—who taught him John 3:16 before passing away—planted the seed of hope that’s carried him ever since. But it was the day his daughter Stevi was born that made it all real. In that moment, Robby says, “I knew somehow God was my true and only God.”

Since then, he’s been faithfully running his race—through the ups, the struggles, and even seven full marathons. He serves as a deacon because he believes in saying “yes” when God calls, trusting that God will always use it in His timing.

Robby is passionate about helping people in tough seasons and encouraging anyone who feels like they’re barely hanging on. He’s a proud dad and granddad who loves trying to fix things, skiing mountain passes, and telling a good story.

Mike Harcrow

Deacon | City Supervisor | Softball Player

Mike has been a part of Canadian Valley Baptist Church for over 24 years—and he says it simply: “The Lord hasn’t called me anywhere else.” His journey to faith began after marrying his wife, Sam, and being welcomed into the church family that eventually led him to Christ. One day, he knew it was time to stop running and start trusting—and he gave his heart and life fully to the Lord.

Mike serves as a deacon because he believes it’s exactly what God has called him to do. His favorite part? Serving the church and its people—especially when it comes to caring for the church building itself, which he’s faithfully done for years.

Originally from Texas, Mike’s now a full-blown Okie (46 years in!), and spends his spare time fishing, playing softball, and enjoying the blessings God continues to provide—forks in the road and all.

His favorite verse is Psalm 23, the very first one he memorized—and a constant source of comfort and strength.

Jon Bogner

Deacon | Retail Manager | Lifelong Learner

Jon’s story is one of steady transformation. Raised Catholic but never quite feeling connected, it wasn’t until he began attending Grove Church that the message of the Gospel truly resonated with him—and he gave his life to God. When Grove merged with CVBC, Jon found something even deeper: a church that felt like family.

He serves as a deacon because he believes helping others is one of the best ways to stay connected to the heart of Jesus and the needs of the people around him. Whether it’s offering support to someone in need or simply pitching in behind the scenes, Jon’s the kind of guy who’s ready to help however he can.

Outside of church, Jon works in retail management, reads often, relaxes with his family, and—fun fact—he started college at 41 and is still pursuing his degree!

His favorite verse is Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you.” It’s a promise that has grounded him during tough seasons and reminds him daily that God’s presence never wavers.

Josiah Owen

Deacon | IT Analyst | Resident Nerd

Josiah became a Christian at seven years old, after a fire-and-brimstone sermon shook him enough to go home and ask his parents how to be saved. Kneeling beside their bed, he gave his heart to Jesus—and never looked back.

He and his wife, Michela, have been part of CVBC for a few years now. What started as a nearby church quickly became a church family. As Josiah puts it, “It’s not perfect—but there’s real love here, and that’s what matters.”

Being a deacon is something he’s always aspired to. He grew up admiring pastors, youth ministers, and deacons as faithful leaders, and now he’s honored to serve in the role himself. Whether it’s teaching, singing, or helping however he can, Josiah finds deep joy in simply showing up and serving others.

Professionally, Josiah works in IT for the State of Oklahoma and is currently earning his degree in cybersecurity. He’s passionate about all things tech, and proud to wear the “nerd” badge with joy. In his free time, you’ll find him gaming, reading, tinkering with computers, or enjoying time with his wife and their dog.

His favorite verse is John 3:16—a simple but powerful reminder of everything our faith rests on.

Gary McEwen

Deacon | Oilfield Veteran | Motorcycle Ministry

Gary didn’t always walk closely with the Lord—but God was always at work. After years in the oilfield, a conversation with a fellow driller about getting home for church sparked something in him. Not long after, a friend stopped by the house, shared his own salvation story, and prayed with Gary to receive Christ. That moment started a personal relationship with Jesus that’s never let go.

Gary and his wife have been attending CVBC for about 10 years now. What keeps them here? “We feel the Holy Spirit’s presence,” he says simply.

Gary serves as a deacon because he’s always had a heart to serve in any way he can. His favorite part is being part of the church body—helping, showing up, and staying rooted in community. He’s especially passionate about missions and sharing what Christ has done in his life.

During the week, Gary brings years of experience in oilfield service. In his free time, he loves camping, golfing, and taking cross-country motorcycle trips—often through his motorcycle ministry.

His favorite verse is 1 John 1:3, which reminds him of the joy of sharing the hope and truth of Christ with others.

Shaun Aaron

Deacon | Youth & AV Guy | Bull-Dodger

Shaun grew up in church with strong Christian leaders in his life and preached his first sermon at just 15 years old. Though his path included some hard detours—including becoming a father at 17 and walking away from his first church—God led him into a new season of faith. He and his wife found CVBC in 2013 after moving to the area, and it quickly became home.

Now, Shaun serves as a deacon because it “fills [his] heart to serve the church in whatever way [he] can.” Whether he’s working with the youth, helping run AV, or just lending a hand, he finds deep joy in giving back and watching how God is moving in the people at CVBC.

During the week, Shaun leads a team at the Hobby Lobby warehouse, and in his free time, you’ll find him watching or playing sports, gaming, or spending time with his family. Oh—and every now and then, he jumps in the ring to dodge bulls at the Mustang rodeo. Seriously.

Shaun’s favorite verse is Psalm 119:105:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
