About Us

Discover who we are - Our Story, Our Vision, and Our Beliefs

Our Story

Canadian Valley Baptist Church began as a church plant out of Chisholm Heights Baptist Church in 1982 with a passion to reach people across the street and around the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While experiencing a rich history of making a difference in the Kingdom of God, on Easter Sunday April 4th, 2021 CVBC began a new chapter by calling Jon Baker as their Lead Pastor and merged with Grove Community Church.

What once was two separate churches is now one family walking together to make a difference in the Kingdom of God.

We would love for you to join us!

Our Vision

We want to help you Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and Walk Together

KNOW GOD

We want you to not just know about God, but have a saving relationship with Him.

(Philippians 3:10-11)

FIND FREEDOM

We want you to settle your yesterdays and walk in the freedom Jesus purchased for you.

(John 10:10)

DISCOVER PURPOSE

We want you to figure out why you were created and then empower you to leverage that purpose to make a difference.

(1 Corinthians 12:4-5)

WALK TOGETHER

We want to walk together and love each other as a family as we follow Jesus and build His kingdom.

(Ephesians 4:1-17)

Our Beliefs

God

God is the Creator and ruler of the universe. He has existed eternally in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5, John 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also dwells in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13, John 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18

The Bible

the Bible is God’s authoritative Word to all mankind. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is inspired, infallible, inerrant, and the ultimate source of truth for the Christian beliefs and living.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:160, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5

Humanity

Humanity is made in the image of God. Although God designed us to have fellowship with Him, we became alienated from God through disobedience. As a result, all human beings are born into a sinful nature and choose to sin against God. We are intrinsically incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through our own efforts.

Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:23, Colossians 1:21, Isaiah 59:1-2

Eternity

You were created to exist forever. We believe that forever is spent one of two places: eternally separated from the goodness of God and enduring His wrath because of sin or eternally enjoying the glory of God in union with Him because of His forgiveness and salvation. When you die, you will either spend eternity in heaven or hell. Eternal separation and wrath from God happens in hell. Eternal union with God in the fullness of His glory happens in heaven.

John 3:16, 1 John 2:25, John 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus: His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is God’s gift to you if you’ll accept it. We can never make up for our sin with self-improvement or good works. It is only in trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s substitute sacrifice and offer of forgiveness that you can be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment you receive Jesus Christ into your life by faith.

Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6, John 1:12, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26, Romans 5:1

Eternal Security

Because God gives humanity eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the and power of God, not the self-effort of the Christian. It is grace and eternal power of God that gives this security.

John 10:29, 2 Timothy 1:12, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 10:10-14, 1 Peter 1:3-5
